Welcome to No SilverBullet

June 9, 2026#meta

Welcome to No SilverBullet, a new blog/newsletter about the SilverBullet ecosystem (both the self-hosted SilverBullet.md and SilverBullet+ desktop edition, and other associated services). If you are an active or prospecting SilverBullet user, or just enjoy Zef’s quirky writing (e.g. from alt.management) this may just be the site for you.

After a bit of a writing hiatus, I thought it would be good to revive the writing habbit in the context of SilverBullet. I think there’s value in sharing not just cold “release notes”, but providing what happens behind the scenes. And a lot of my thinking is improved by writing, so writing my ideas down is likely to make SilverBullet a better product.

The name is a cheeky reference to No Silver Bullet, the classic Fred Brooks paper (here’s the PDF) about that “there is no single development, in either technology or management technique, which by itself promises even one order of magnitude improvement within a decade in productivity, in reliability, in simplicity.”

To which I can only say: hold my 🍺.

Future posts on this blog may, or may not include:

  • Product release announcements (yawn!)
  • Philosophical discussions on how knowledge management (a.k.a. “thinking”) should/can/could be done, and how SilverBullet supports it. “To be or not to be” level stuff.
  • Technical discussions about how SilverBullet works behind the scenes and technical choices made.
  • Introductory posts to various SilverBullet aspects, e.g. the object index, Space Lua etc.

If any this is of any interest to you, feel free to either set https://no.silverbullet.plus to be your new browser home page (my recommendation), or to subscribe to the RSS feed, or to Subscribe via e-mail (see the box below).

Let’s see how this goes.
